Man stealing scratch lottery tickets across KC metro

MERRIAM, KANSAS (June 4, 2012) – Merriam Police are asking for help finding a man who is stealing scratch lottery tickets from retailers around the metro.

Police said the man will distract the cashier as he puts the lottery tickets in his pocket. The man tells the clerk that he can't pay and will need to get money from his vehicle and then takes off.

Investigators said the man has done this more than 40 times in the past few weeks at stores in Kansas and Missouri.

Police said the man drives a white, work-type van with no side windows, and it almost hit one store employee who tried to write down the license plate number on the van.

The thief is described as white, in his 30s and about 5 feet 10 inches tall. Witnesses said he has an average build with short hair and a goatee.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
