Seasonal Merriam

Merriam is nourished by nature and steeped in sunshine throughout most of the year. We are home to four true seasons with only 34 inches of rainfall. Over 2,700 hours of annual sunshine make Merriam a great city to visit and explore year-round. 


  • Calling all Big 12 basketball fans! Are you coming to town for the men's basketball tournament? The Merriam Visitors Bureau offers a free game shuttle for our hotel guests. Stay in Merriam, save money on parking, buy more nachos. 
  • The Heartland Artist Exhibition is a juried show on display throughout March at the Tim Murphy Art Gallery. The exhibition features talented artists from around the U.S. 
  • An annual tradition on the third Saturday in May, Turkey Creek Festival offers live music, craft vendors, kids activities, and it's you're only chance all year to get in the paddle boats at Antioch Park!

  • The Merriam Aquatic Center is equipped with a zero-depth pool for the little ones, multiple slides and diving boards, and a full length pool. Open from Memorial Day to Labor day.
  • Fresh local fruits and veggies are plentiful at the Merriam Farmers' Market at Merriam Marketplace. Open on Saturdays (7 a.m.- 1 p.m., May-September) and Wednesdays (4-7p.m., June-August).
  • Downtown Merriam is transformed into a patriotic paradise with an astonishing display of 1,600 flags on display for Flags 4 Freedom. A free patriotic concert is performed at the Merriam Marketplace on the 4th of July.

  • Car people unite at the annual Turkey Creek Car & Motorcycle Show. Always on the second Saturday in September, and always packed full of amazing cars that will make you ohh and ahh!
  • Fall is the best time of year for a walk along the Turkey Creek Streamway Trail. Four miles of tree-lined creek on a crisp morning when the leaves are just beginning to turn - what a perfect way to start the day!
  • Get your pumpkin-spice latte at Caribou to keep you warm and caffeinated!

  • Knock-out your holiday shopping at IKEA and Merriam Town Center, and stop in Hobby Lobby for all your decorations and holiday craft projects. 
  • Prepare to be impressed by today's young artists featured in the High School Visual Arts Competition at the Tim Murphy Art Gallery. We have many talented artists in the area!
  • Stock up on dessert bread from Strawberry Hill Povitica. It's sure to be a favorite at all of your holiday parties!

The holiday lights on the Country Club Plaza are guaranteed to bring you cheer on a cold winter night. Winter is also a great time to visit the museums or catch a live performance at the Kauffman Center.
