Work begins on Shawnee Mission Parkway bridge over railroad tracks in March

Work will begin on Shawnee Mission Parkway over BNSF railroad tracks to the west of Merriam city limits in early March. The scope of this project is to replace the east and west bridge approaches, remove the median on the bridge, patch de-laminated areas of the bridge deck, paint structural steel, repair concrete curbs and mill & overlay to west city limit. All entrance and exit ramps for I-35 and Merriam Drive will remain fully operational throughout the construction.


Project duration: March 20 to July 7, 2017

Project limits: Eby Street to west city limit.

Traffic pattern: Two lanes eastbound and westbound, with several lane closure variations throughout project duration.

Carter Ave. traffic will be restricted at times during this project.

Turkey Creek Streamway Trail: The portion of the trail that runs along Carter Avenue and under the bridge will be closed for approximately 10 days, tentatively March 27–April 5.
