Help Stuff the Holiday Barrels for Those in Need

Tis the season of giving – so make a difference this month and help stuff our holiday barrels. In partnership with the Johnson County Christmas Bureau (JCCB), the City of Merriam invites you to contribute wish list items to help your friends and neighbors.

Merriam has donation barrels at two convenient locations, City Hall (9001 W. 62nd St.) and the Irene B. French Community Center (5701 Merriam Drive), with all items going to the 2017 Johnson County Christmas Bureau Holiday Shop Program.

The program helps low-income families enjoy the holidays without the stress of worrying how they will pay for toys and needed clothes. Wish list items include: kids’ toys, coats (new or gently used), hats, gloves, scarves, clothing, personal care items, nursing home items, books, non-perishable food, and gifts for adults and teens.

JCCB assists about 3,300 families and 700 nursing home residents with donations from across the metro. The 2016 Holiday Shop distributed items valued at nearly $900,000.

Giving is simple and your donations can really make a difference. The City will accept donations through the end of November.
