A Message from Police Chief Bill Lietzke:
| Chief Lietzke joined the Merriam Police Department in 1979 after serving in the U.S. Army for three years. He has progressed through the ranks by serving as a patrol officer, a sergeant, a lieutenant in charge of investigations, and as the Assistant Chief. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in the Administration of Justice from Park College in 1992 and attended the FBI National Academy in 1999. He was appointed as the chief in February 2006. |

Welcome to the Merriam Police Department's web page. It is our goal to make navigating this site both easy and informative. There are eleven main categories and each have sub-sections to help further define your search for the information you are seeking.
We will be continuing to look for ways to better inform and serve the public through this web site.
Of particular interest to me is the "History" section. In a relatively short period of time, this department has grown from the original two officers to its current staffing of twenty eight officers. However, shear numbers are not what make up the current police department. This agency is defined by officers that are truly dedicated to serving the citizens of Merriam. One of the things we pledge in our mission statement is to be responsive to our citizens, and to do so with compassion and concern. This will always be done with respect for their individual rights and human dignity.
The officers themselves live by a stringent code of conduct. Of all the organizational values that we are held to, the one I consider the most important is integrity. There is no room for compromise in this area. Our citizens deserve to have full faith in their officers and we don’t intend to disappoint them. It is my practice that each of us holds the others accountable in not only this area, but in all our other core values as well.
We have been blessed with the resources to properly train and equip each officer. In return they have responded by becoming a professional team that I am proud to be associated with. Please take the time to get to know them better by perusing the available biographies found in the "Career Opportunities" section. I think you'll be as impressed with the quality of officers and the standard of work that they do, as I am.
If you have any suggestions for this web site, or if I can be of any assistance in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me.
