Cpl. Troy Duvanel has worked for the Merriam Police Department since 1995. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Kansas. While in college Troy participated in an internship with the Merriam Police Department. This opportunity provided him with an insight into the field of policing and the Merriam Police Department. He worked in the patrol division for three years and was a field training officer.

In 1998 Troy became a detective and worked in the investigations division for nearly eight years. During that time he served on the Kansas City Metro Squad, and in 2002 became the Lead Detective for the Merriam Police Department. The Lead Detective investigates felony crimes such as rape, robbery and other serious felonies. In 2006 Troy was promoted to the rank of Corporal and returned to the patrol division. Troy is also a member of the Merriam SWAT team and is the team leader for the squad.
