Sergeant Al Jones:
 

Sgt. Al Jones is currently assigned to the patrol division as the evening shift supervisor. He started his career with the Merriam Police Dept. in May of 1983. He received his first promotion to Corporal in 1988 and his most recent promotion to Sergeant in 1997. Sgt. Jones will complete his 24th year with the Merriam Police Department in May of 2007.

 

Sgt. Jones has served the department in many different capacities. He is a certified instructor in the Laser Radar unit. He has served as a traffic officer with the traffic unit and as an investigator with the investigations unit. He has served with the Johnson County Sheriff's Dept. Special Investigations Unit as part of a multi-jurisdictional task force member. He is a current member of the Kansas City Metro Squad, which investigates major cases in the metropolitan Kansas City area (mostly murder). He is a member of the Kansas Peace Officers Association.

Sgt. Jones completed his police academy training in Hutchinson, KS. in 1983. He has a Brown Belt II in Tae Kwon Doe. He is a certified defensive tactics instructor. He has trained and instructed officers in Pressure Point and Control Tactics, Lateral Vascular Neck Restraint, baton, and ground fighting techniques. He is a high school graduate of Central High School. He has an Associates Degree in Engineering Science from Penn Valley Community College and a Bachelor's Degree from Park University in Administration of Justice. He has received supplemental training in Supervision Principles from the North Western Institute, Drug Enforcement and Recognition training from the D.E.A., Covert Investigations by the A.T.F. and has received specialized training in Critical Incident and Command Incidents.
