REPORT A CRIME ~

If you've been the victim of a crime it's really important to report it. We know that sometimes it’s not easy to decide to come forward. But we also know that if no one reports a crime, it’s as if it never happened.

If no one reports a crime, the criminal is free to commit more crime, damaging more communities and individuals.

It’s also important to report crime for your own practical purposes, like getting a crime number from the police so that you can make an insurance claim.

How do I report a crime?
There are lots of ways to report a crime, including:

• going to your local police station
• reporting a crime anonymously
• reporting non-emergency crime online

When there is an emergency, lives are in danger, serious injury, crime in progress, or any other situation needing immediate attention - DIAL 911! If you wish to remain anonymous or keep information confidential just tell the operator.

Going to your local police station
At the Merriam police station you will be asked to provide details of the crime and make a statement about the facts of the case.

You’ll receive a case number that you can quote to find out about the progress of your case and to use if you’re making any kind of insurance claim.

Station hours are Monday - 8AM to 6PM; Tuesday through Friday - 7AM to 9PM; Saturday 10AM to 6PM; closed on Sunday.

Reporting a crime anonymously
TIPS Hotline - (816)474-TIPS - a vital instrument where citizens anonymously give tips on crimes and ultimately help fight crime in our neighborhoods. Nearly 100,000 tips have led to over 8,500 arrests and cleared over 20,000 crimes or warrants.

The hotline is run by Kansas City Crime Commission, a completely independent organization dedicated to making the Kansas City metropolitan area a safer, more secure place to live, do business and visit, by supporting law-enforcement and justice agencies and their causes.

When you call the TIPS Hotline, you will not be required to give your name, sign any kind of statement or appear in court – all you have to do is provide the information about the crime.
