Firefighter Trainee

The City of Merriam is seeking qualified applicants for the position of full time Firefighter Trainee. Within 6 to 12 months from hire date, the trainee is eligible to advance to the Firefighter I position upon successfully passing department examinations and evaluations.

Essential Duties include: Protects life and property by performing fire fighting, emergency aid, hazardous materials, and fire prevention duties. Maintains fire equipment, apparatus, and facilities. Work schedule is 24 hour shift work and on call for emergency alarms.

Part-time Facility Supervisor (Parks & Recreation Department)

The City of Merriam Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a qualified, enthusiastic individual for a Facility Supervisor part-time position at the Irene B. French Community Center. This position is scheduled for evenings and weekends, approx. 10-15 hours per week. Responsibilities include greeting, assisting, and supervising patrons, program registration, and membership sales. Customer service, typing and computer skills are necessary.

Seasonal - Maintenance Worker I (through November 1, 2012)

The City of Merriam is seeking seasonal maintenance worker in the Public Works Department. Candidates must be dependable and have the ability to follow written/oral instructions.

Essential duties include: Inspecting/repairing streets and drainage systems; maintaining records related to inspections and maintenance; ensuring proper maintenance of equipment and tools; driving trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of equipment, gravel, sand and salt; performing required labor for construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew; operating a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the parks, ground maintenance and street department.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Eligible to possess a valid Kansas or Missouri Commercial Driver’s License.
Able to operate tractors, trucks and other equipment in all weather conditions.
