Board of Zoning Appeals | Board of Structure Appeals
Planning Commission | Parks & Recreation Board | Tree Board

Boards and commissions serving the City of Merriam are listed below. Appointments to these boards are recommended by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council. Citizens appointed to these boards receive no monetary compensation and their services and interest in the development of our City is a valuable contribution to the continued progress of Merriam.

Board of Zoning Appeals:
There is currently one vacancy on the BZA (no ward requirements).
A hearing before the Board of Zoning Appeals is scheduled when an application is filed for a variance of zoning regulations, approval of a conditional use or an appeal of a decision rendered by the Zoning Administrator. The Board of Zoning Appeals meets as needed the third Wednesday of each month, if needed, at 7PM in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
Board of Structure Appeals:
There are currently two vacancies on the BSA (no ward requirements).
The Board of Structure Appeals is an appointed body having jurisdiction to hear and decide appeals where it is alleged there is an error in a decision made by a public officer in the enforcement of the Uniform Building Code, Uniform Plumbing Code, Uniform Mechanical Code or any other code or ordinance related to construction of buildings adopted by the City.

Planning Commission:
There is currently one vacancy on the Planning Commission (no ward requirements).
The City's Planning Commission meets the first Wednesday of every month at 7PM in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The Planning Commission's duties include holding public hearings to consider applications to rezone property; proposed amendments to the City's zoning ordinance; and annually reviewing the Comprehensive Plan and Land Use Map of the City.

 

Parks & Recreation Board:
There are currently no vacancies on the Parks & Recreation Board.
The Merriam Park & Recreation Advisory Board is an appointed body that provides recommendations for operations, annual budget requests, and program priorities concerning the Merriam Community Center. This body meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7PM at the Merriam Community Center.
Tree Board:
There are currently no vacancies on the Tree Board.
The Merriam Tree Board is an appointed body responsible for making recommendations to the Governing Body relating to the planting of trees, shrubs, and other plantings upon City-owned property promoting the beautification of our City. This committee meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 7PM in the Merriam Community Center.
