Merriam Parks & Recreation & Community Center Foundation

Merriam Parks & Recreation & Community Center Foundation ~

Merriam Parks, Recreation, and Community Center Foundation is an independent, non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization which directly benefits City of Merriam park and recreation programs in addition to the Irene B. French Community Center.

Founded in 1988 by individuals interested in the development and continued growth of the renovated community center, the Foundation continues to work toward a common goal of providing funding for programs and equipment which could not otherwise be acquired.

We pursue our membership by working directly through others to:

  • Raise funds for community center enhancements;
  • Offer recreation scholarships;
  • Accept gifts, memorials, and grants;
  • Identify areas of need within our recreation community; and
  • Sponsor and support cultural and enrichment activities.

The American flags which have flown during the Fourth of July Fields For Freedom event in downtown Merriam (www.fieldsforfreedom.org) are available for rent. To download a copy of the Merriam Parks & Recreation & Community Center Foundation flag rental policy, click here.

Other Foundation projects have included:

  • Professional wall covering and lighting for the art gallery.
  • Courtyard enhancements.
  • Digital piano for senior programs.
  • Game room furniture.
  • Sound system and stage curtains for the auditorium/gymnasium.
  • Fitness Center equipment.
  • Audiovisual equipment and enhancements.
  • Summer concerts at the Merriam Marketplace.
  • Sponsorship of the Streamway Park Art Show.
  • Donation of art for City of Merriam facilities.

In 2003, the Irene B. French Giving Tree was established by the Foundation to recognize individuals and community partners who donate financial support.

The Giving Tree also offers an opportunity for gifts in honor or in memory of a family member or friend. All donations are tax deductible. If you are interested in supporting the works of the foundation, please contact the Merriam Parks & Recreation Department at (913) 322-5550.
