Merriam Turkey Creek Festival ~

The City of Merriam will hold its Annual Turkey Creek Festival, Parade & 5K Fun Run on Saturday, May 17, 2008. All activities (except 5K Run) take place at the beautiful, newly renovated Antioch Park. The day is filled with events for everyone to enjoy. Choose from the many activities listed below. Most of the activities are FREE.
Schedule of Events:
7-NOON Pancake Breakfast in Shelter # 1, sponsored by the Shawnee/Merriam Noon Lions Club. All you can eat pancakes, sausage coffee & juice. Adults $5/ Children 12 & under $3
8AM "One Hill of a Run" (Irene B. French Community Center) - 5K Run/Walk/Youth Sprints. Start/finish at 57th & Merriam Drive. A "hilly" but FUN course. Youth Sprints on Merriam Drive. 10AM - 5PM Summertime Arts & Crafts Show (Antioch Park) - Over 95 vendors will be displaying their merchandise. To register contact Marsha Norman at 913) 631-7050 ext. 443. For more information click here.
10AM - 5PM Petting Zoo, pony rides, kids inflatable games (Antioch Park) - Build a wooden project (sponsored by Home Depot), or take a train ride. Paddle boat rides, roving clowns, caricaturist, and much more!
11AM Festival Parade - "Merriam, A Community Growing Together." - 70 to 80 units parading from 69th Street down Antioch Road to 64th Terrace. Parade announcer and awards ceremony at the entrance of Antioch Park. To register contact Karen Crane at (913) 403-8999 or complete the application form found here.

3 - 5PM
Main stage and Fire Pit stage free music concerts. Enjoy the sounds of some of the metro areas best local bands.

Volunteers needed -
To volunteer to help out with the festival contact Dave Smothers at 913-322-5550. People are needed for building wooden projects with children, driving golf carts (must be 16yrs), help out at the information booth and parking lot security.

Shuttle Buses Available -
Shuttle buses will be leaving every 10 minutes from the following locations:

  • Irene B. French Community Center, 5701 Merriam Drive
  • Merriam City Hall, 9000 W. 62nd Terrace
  • Merriam Town Center, Home Depot Parking Lot - 5700 Antioch Road
  • Shawnee Mission Medical Center, 73rd Street & Antioch

Buses will drop off at the front entrance of Antioch Park. If needed, golf courtesy carts will be available to take you from the entrance to the top of the hill.
