Community Recycling Event

The Cities of Merriam and Shawnee collaborate on this community-wide recycling event to provide an opportunity for residents to drop off a variety of items in one convenient location. This event is for Merriam and Shawnee residents.

Accepted items include: 

  • Consumer electronics (anything with a cord)
  • Household batteries
  • Bicycles
  • Eyeglasses
  • Jeans
  • Latex paint*
  • Documents for secure and professional shredding.

Please note we're NOT collecting cardboard or paper (non-shredding).

*Johnson County Household Hazardous Waste will collect latex paint. No paint from commercial institutions, oil-based paint, or other household hazardous items will be accepted.

Fees

Most items will be recycled for free unless noted below. We're accepting CASH ONLY.

Electronics

  • Televisions: $40
  • Computer monitors: $25

Document Shredding

  • Regular-sized file box: $5 suggested donation
  • Large file box: $10 suggested donation

 

Donations help offset the event costs and will benefit the Merriam Parks, Recreation, and Community Center Foundation and the Shawnee Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund. CASH PREFERRED, PLEASE. 

Bicycles brought to the event will be refurbished and redistributed to various community organizations by the City of Shawnee.

Location

Cars should enter at 67th St. and Slater St. and follow signage or event volunteer instructions.
