Merriam today was named a 2017 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to urban forestry.
Sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, the award signifies Merriam’s continued preservation of planting and caring for its trees.
The City of Merriam is deeply rooted in forestry. It has a dedicated web page on tree planting techniques, and our Public Works crews plant trees with local students each Arbor Day, including this year on April 27.
This is Merriam’s 33rd year being honored as a Tree City USA. It’s one of 3,400 cites across the nation that received the recognition.
