The Merriam Police Department recently joined the Neighbors by Ring app to provide crime and safety alert to residents.
Ring is known for making video doorbells that connect with your phone. Its app allows users to view and share videos of suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. Participants don’t have to own a Ring or similar video system to post or view alerts. Merriam Police Capt. Troy Duvanel said it’s a great way for residents to stay informed of criminal activity in their area.
“We look forward to using this technology in a crime-fighting partnership with the Merriam community as a new type of neighborhood watch,” Capt. Duvanel said.“The goal of this video camera partnership is to have extra ‘eyes,’ 24 hours a day to assist us with identifying criminals and help reduce crime.”
Capt. Duvanel said the app provides a meaningful way to communicate with the police department and that participation is voluntary.
You can download the free app on your iOS or Android or text “StaySafe” to 555888 on your smartphone. Once you join, you can receive real-time information from your neighbors or Merriam police officers about criminal activity in your area.
