Membership provides full access to the facility, including an indoor pool with slides, lazy river, lap lanes, and therapy water; outdoor pool with lap lanes, diving boards, and zip line; industry-leading fitness equipment; walking/jogging track; full-size gym with options for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball; and space to gather and host events.

Code of Conduct

The Merriam Community Center is committed to creating a welcoming and safe environment for all guests. It is because of this commitment that the policies and procedures in regards to behavior and misconduct will be strictly enforced. Guests who do not abide by the policies and procedures may be ejected or suspended from the center.

If a participant or spectator in the Merriam Community Center (MCC) is ejected or suspended from any facility (indoor or outdoor), program, contest, or activity, they are immediately ineligible for further access or participation in any program or facility until they are cleared by the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation and the supervisor of the department in which the misconduct occurred. Those who are ejected from a program or facility area for any reason are not entitled to a refund of any fees paid.  

After ejection, it is the responsibility of the participant to schedule an appointment with the Assistant Director to review his/her behavior and subsequent eligibility to participate in any MCC program or to utilize facilities. They will not be permitted to the building until that meeting has taken place. Decisions for suspension may be appealed to the Parks and Recreation Director and then to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

 Anyone who commits, incites, or aids others in committing any of the following acts of unsportsmanlike or misconduct shall be subjected to disciplinary procedures.

  1.  Hitting, striking, or pushing an MCC employee, participant, spectator, or guest.
  2. Sexually harassing, assaulting, or any sort of sexual misconduct towards an MCC employee, participant, spectator, or guest.
  3. Threatening physical harm towards an MCC employee, participant, spectator, or guest.
  4. Verbally abusing an MCC employee, participant, spectator or guest.
  5. Acting in a way which would cause equipment or facility damage (including spitting, snorting), and/or injury to a person.
  6. Stealing from an MCC employee, participant, spectator, or guest.
  7. Failing to cooperate and respond honestly to injuries or requests for assistance in identifying individuals who may be involved in incidents.
  8. Entering, using, or accessing the facility or program illegally such as using an assumed name or going through an authorized entrance.

Personal conduct situations that are not covered by other provisions not stated in the above items #1-8 will be dealt with in an appropriate manner by the Assistant Parks and Recreation Director.

Rental space is available throughout the Merriam Community Center, including meeting rooms with space for up to 250 people, classrooms, gymnasium, indoor and outdoor pools.

Policies

Registration

Please register at least three working days prior to the start date of a class.  Register early as many of our classes reach capacity due to popularity.

Age Requirements

  • Children eight and under must be accompanied by a responsible person age 14 or older.
  • Adult fitness class participants must be 16 years of age or older. 
  • Youth members between the ages of 13-15 must complete a free youth fitness center orientation and be under parent / guardian supervision during visits.

 

Tobacco Products

The use of tobacco products is prohibited in the Community Center and within 10 feet of all entrances.

 

Refund / Cancellation Policy

All refunds are processed Monday – Friday 8 a.m.  – 5 p.m. For purpose of point of notification, written requests that can be verified by date will be accepted during all hours of operation at the Community Center welcome desk. Refunds for transactions paid by credit card, regardless of the amount, will be credited to the account on the day the cancellation is approved. Transactions paid by cash or check will be reimbursed by check, unless less than $10, please allow up to three weeks for payment. Refunds less than $10 will be reimbursed through petty cash and will require the signature of the person eligible for the refund. Administration reserves the right to review and alter policy as needed. Notification of change will be provided in writing on the website and posted at the Community Center welcome desk of any modifications to the policy.

 

Lost and Found

  • Merriam Community Center is not responsible for any belongings left behind, lost or stolen.
  • All patrons are encouraged to lock their vehicles upon entering the facility, not to bring valuables into the center and utilize the day lockers with integrating locks while attending the center to safeguard all personal belongings.
  • Items that are deemed lost will be kept in a secure storage area for a maximum of 30 days. Check with the Welcome Desk to inquire about a lost item.
  • Personal hygiene items such as shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc. will be disposed of each day at closing time. Other items will be kept for one week and then disposed of appropriately.
  • On the last day of each month, items lost will be displayed in the lower lobby of the facility, in hopes of reuniting owners. On the first day of every month, it will be the discretion of staff to determine if the item is discarded or donated.
  • Items of value will be held in a safe for three (3) business days prior to being turned over to the police.
  • Staff members are not permitted to watch or hold valuables or bags for patrons while attending the center. 

 

Program Instruction

  • Instructors or public entities wanting to teach classes must complete an “Instructor Profile” and provide a class proposal. Instructor Manuals are available by contacting the Recreation Supervisor.
  • After review of the submitted documents, MPRD staff will contact the applicant regarding approval or denial of the proposal.
  • Anyone observed performing behaviors that appear to be deemed training, coaching or instruction that does not have written approval from MPRD may be approached by MPRD staff and questioned regarding their activities.
  • If an MPRD staff member concludes that this policy has been violated, both the instructor and patron may be asked to leave the facility. Repeat violations of this policy may result in suspension or permanent loss of MPRD privileges.
