Waterfall Park

Waterfall Park

Waterfall Park is named for its most prominent natural feature - a waterfall in Turkey Creek.

The development of the park began in 1997 with the purchase of 4.4 acres as part of an overall storm water project from Brown Park to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Bridge. An additional 7.1 acres was purchased by the City of Merriam in 2005. Also in 2005, Johnson County Parks and Recreation (JCPRD) purchased two additional tracts totaling 4.3 acres creating the 15.8 acre park enjoyed today. The City leases the land form JCPRD for $1 per year for 25 years with the ability to extend or renew the agreement. This area was the original home of Merriam Farmers' Market until the development of Merriam Marketplace

The park features 2 practice soccer fields named after Julius McFarlin, the first African-American elected to public office in Johnson County serving from 1973–2000 as Merriam's Ward 1 City Council member. He is also credited for chartering the Johnson County Branch of the NAACP.
