Help spruce up your neighborhood!

The City is partnering with our residents to improve common areas across Merriam. The Neighborhood Island Grant reimburses you 100% - up to $500. You can use funds to buy pre-approved plants and upkeep for one of 20 islands identified.

How It Works

Step 1.Understand Eligibility

  • Pick an island.

  •  Make sure the plants are eligible for reimbursement.

  • The Public Works director will determine the eligibility of materials not listed.
  • Applicants don't have to live in the same neighborhood as the island.
  • Applicants can apply for more than one island.
  • Only one grant awarded per island each year.
  • Applicant assumes all liability during the grant term.

 

Step 2.Apply

  • Submit application by email or mail to Public Works, 6901 Knox St., Merriam, KS 66203.
  • No application fee.
  • Application must be approved before you start improvements.
  • Applicants must submit a W-9 to Merriam's finance department.

 

Step 3.Make Improvements

  • Install all reimbursable plant material by June 15.
  • Continue maintenance through August 31.

 

Step 4.Get Reimbursement

  • Reimbursement amount: at least $100; no more than $500.
  • Water and labor aren’t reimbursable.
  • Applicant provides up to $500 in receipts for installed plant material via mail or email.
  • City staff will complete a final inspection.
  • Once approved, you’ll get reimbursed.
