Construction crews this week poured concrete on the last of five new residential driveways. The cost to residents: nothing.

Merriam city leaders created the Residential Driveway Grant to help low-income residents by providing new driveways or making necessary repairs, for free.

“This has been a great opportunity for some of our residence,” Community Development Director Bryan Dyer said. “Our hope is the program will be able to return in 2023.”

Eligible residents applied for the grant last year, and the City coordinated with a contractor to replace the driveways. The City allocated $50,000 to pay for the new driveways. Funding for the grant is currently in the 2023 draft budget to serve more Merriam residents next year.
