Two new police officers and a community service officer are learning the ropes of the Merriam Police Department.

Officers Josh Kramer and Mike Russell and Community Service Officer Gavin Caldwell recently started serving Merriam residents.

After Kramer finishes training at the Johnson County Police Academy and he and Russell complete field training, the two will grace the streets of Merriam and be active at community events.

As a CSO, Caldwell run animal calls, work as a court bailiff, and help officers in any way needed.

Merriam Police Chief Darren McLaughlin also recently promoted Officer Nick Fling to master police officer. Fling started working for the Merriam Police Department in 2019. He said he’s excited to take on a leadership role with this promotion.
