One City Council seat is popular this year. Three Merriam residents are running for an open Ward 2 City Council seat. That means Ward 2 registered voters will have a primary election to determine who runs in the general election.

The Ward 2 candidates in the Tuesday, Aug. 3 primary election are:
• Amy Rider
• Nancy Hammond
• Richard “Rick” Gendvil

The top two candidates will advance to the general election in November. Other candidates running in the Nov. 2 general election include:

Mayor: Ward 4 Councilmember Bob Pape and Angel Lopez III are running to become Merriam’s next mayor. Mayor Ken Sissom isn’t seeking reelection.

Ward 1: Jacob Laha is running uncontested. Councilmember Scott Diebold isn’t seeking reelection.

Ward 2: The primary election will determine the top two candidates.

Ward 3: Incumbent Councilmember Christine Evans Hands is running uncontested.

Ward 4: Incumbent Councilmember David Neal is running against Staci Chivetta.

The candidates had until noon on Tuesday, June 1, to file to run for local offices. Find more information about the elections at jocoelection.org. Register to vote here
