City Council Adopts 2021 Budget

City Council members voted to adopt Merriam’s 2021 budget at the Aug. 24 City Council meeting.

The new budget goes into effect Jan. 1, 2021, and will fund capital improvement projects and equipment as well as core city services from the police, fire, court, public works, parks and recreation, and administration departments.

The 2021 budget process started in January with the Merriam City Council providing goals and objectives to staff to guide the budget development.

2021 Budget Highlights

  • No increase to the City’s mill levy rate of 27.558.
  • Nearly $2 million investment to improve E. Frontage Road from 67th to 75th streets.
  • $650,000 to repave sections of Goodman St., 55th St., and 51st Terrace.
  • $10,000 to invest in electric vehicle charging stations.
  • Fund new and existing grant programs for Merriam residents and businesses, including Exterior Home Improvement, Neighborhood Island, Block Party, Historic Downtown Exterior Improvements, and Residential Sustainability Improvements.
