What are your top priorities or focus areas for the city?

I care deeply about keeping Merriam a place where people can afford to live, grow, and put down roots. One of my main focus areas is exploring how we can create more attainable housing while preserving the character and livability of our city.

What’s one accomplishment you’re most proud of during your time on the council?

I’m proud of a lot of the work we’ve done together on Council! One of my favorite things is being a part of the redevelopment of the long-vacant K-Mart site. Being involved in that project from project conception all the way through the ribbon cutting was a huge learning experience and it has made a large impact in Ward 4 and on Merriam in general.

What’s your favorite local spot in the city?

Any of our parks, the library or the Community Center!

What do you love most about living here?

The strong sense of community and small-town feel. People tend to stay here for a long time, which says a lot about how connected and welcoming the city is. I also love the diversity of our housing, from different styles and eras to a range of home types, along with our large trees and spacious lots that give Merriam its character and charm.

What’s a fun fact people might not know about you?

I’m a huge people person and love getting to know others. I have a very strong memory for details about people and conversations, I don't think it's quite photographic, but enough that it sometimes surprises people!

What’s your vision for the city in the next 5-10 years?

In the next 5–10 years, I see Merriam as a city that has embraced smart, intentional growth while staying true to its character and sense of community. I envision a fully revitalized Shawnee Mission Parkway corridor - ideally with some upgrades in progress to help with traffic flow from the Interstate, with redevelopment complete on both the north and south sides between I-35 and Antioch. I also see a clear, implemented vision for downtown Merriam, one that addresses floodplain challenges and transforms the area into a true destination while honoring the history and context that make Merriam special. Throughout the city, I hope to see continued investment in public art and placemaking that reflects Merriam’s creativity, livability, and pride.
