Adopt-A-Park
The City of Merriam’s Adopt-A-Park Sponsorship Program is your chance to make a lasting impact on the community you love. This program was created to inspire families, community groups, businesses, and organizations to take an active role in caring for our beautiful parks and facilities.
By adopting a park, you’re not just supporting green spaces – you’re creating a sense of ownership and responsibility that keeps Merriam vibrant and welcoming for everyone.
Why Adopt a Park?
- Preserve Beauty: Help maintain Merriam’s parks as safe, clean, and inviting spaces.
- Build Community: Show your pride and connect with others who care about our city.
- Leave a Legacy: Ensure our parks thrive for future generations to enjoy.
Together, we can keep Merriam’s parks flourishing for years to come.
What Does It Take to Adopt a Park?
Adopting a park is a rewarding way to give back to your community – and it comes with a few simple commitments to keep our parks thriving:
1. Commit to a 3-Year Partnership
Your adoption lasts for three years. At the end of your term, you’ll have the first opportunity to renew and continue making a difference!
2. Host Quarterly Park Activities
Show your love for your park by organizing one activity every quarter. This could be:
- A clean-up day to keep things beautiful
- A special repair or construction project
- A fundraiser to upgrade equipment or add new features
All activities are coordinated with the Parks & Recreation Department to ensure success.
3. Share Your Ideas
Your voice matters! Provide input on park improvements or maintenance. You can attend a Parks & Recreation Advisory Board meeting, or simply send your ideas by email, mail, or even a quick phone call.
4. Be the Park’s Eyes & Ears
Help us keep Merriam’s parks safe and welcoming. As an adopter, you’ll:
- Check in on your park regularly
- Report vandalism, cleanliness issues, or other concerns to Parks & Recreation or the Police if needed
What You Get as an Adopt-A-Park Partner

- The City of Merriam Highlights & Recreation magazine (3 issues per year)
- The City of Merriam website
2. Project Support
Planning a clean-up day or improvement project? We’ve got you covered with:
- Garbage bags and safety vests for litter pick-up
- Access to equipment for development projects (as available)
3. A Seat at the Table
You’ll be included in park development planning discussions, giving you a voice in shaping the future of your adopted park.
