This Thursday, our beloved city celebrates 75 wonderful years of community, growth, and charm. Since its founding on October 23, 1950, Merriam has transformed into a vibrant place where small-town warmth meets Midwest hospitality.

Over the decades, Merriam has grown with a rich history, beautiful parks, scenic trails, and an exciting blend of restaurants, shops, and local attractions. Through it all, our city has remained just right.

Join us as we mark this special occasion with a birthday celebration at Merriam Marketplace! From 4–8 p.m., come enjoy an evening of fun, music, and community spirit.

There will be prizes, free ice cream, face painting, a balloon artist, Touch-a-Truck, friendship bracelets, and so much more! Starting at 6 p.m. students from Crestview and Merriam Park Elementary schools will sing “Happy Birthday” to Merriam, then we'll enjoy some delicious birthday cake.

The fun continues at 6:30 p.m., with a special story time hosted by the Johnson County Library at the south end of the Marketplace.

This celebration is a heartfelt tribute to everything that makes Merriam special. Let’s come together to honor the past and look toward to the future of our amazing city.

You won’t want to miss this memorable birthday bash, because Merriam is just right!
