City Council Approves 2024 Operating Budget; Decreases Mill Levy Rate

Merriam City Councilmembers yesterday voted to approve Merriam’s 2024 Operating Budget. It includes a .25 mill levy decrease to the City’s portion of the property tax rate – the first change in the mill levy since 2008 and the first decrease since 1998.

The budget includes funds for residential programs, staff salaries, street improvement projects, and contractual services, such as:

  • $8.9 million for capital improvements, including improvements to Merriam Drive from Johnson Drive to 55th St. and 50th Terrace and England St. to Kessler St.
  • Funds to expand the City’s grants programs and property tax rebates.
  • Funds all current City festivals and programs.
  • Investments in energy-efficient improvements.

The budgeted 2024 city expenditures are about $43 million, and the mill levy rate will be 27.415 mills.
