The Merriam Police Department is now accepting online applications for the Citizens Police Academy. The Citizens Police Academy started in 2009 as a way to strengthen relationships with the community. Get a behind-the-scene tour of what officers do on a daily basis.
The free 10-week program starts Wednesday, Aug. 23 and runs through Oct. 25. Sessions are held on Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. at the Merriam Police Department, located at 9010 W. 62nd St.

Participants will also tour the Merriam police station as well as Johnson County crime lab, dispatch, and jail.
Persons interested in attending the Merriam Police Department Citizens Academy must be at least (18) years of age, without any drug, domestic violence, or felony convictions or adjudications. Applicants must pass a records and background check and provide a personal reference. Non-Merriam residents are welcome to apply.
