The Merriam Police Department is now accepting online applications for the Citizens Police Academy. The Citizens Police Academy started in 2009 as a way to strengthen relationships with the community. Get a behind-the-scene tour of what officers do on a daily basis. The 10-week program starts Wednesday, Aug. 18 and runs through Oct. 20. Sessions are held on Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m at the Merriam Police Department located at 9010 W. 62nd St. Non-Merriam residents are welcome to apply.

Participants will also tour the Merriam police station as well as Johnson County crime lab, dispatch, and jail.
