Register Your Alarm

Register your alarm system so our police and fire departments can better help you during an emergency!

All businesses and residents need to register their new or existing alarm systems within the City. Our police and fire departments will use this information to know where things are on your property.

There's no fee to register your alarm system. Once registered, you'll receive a certificate.

Alarm Ordinance

This ordinance passed in 1994 to help with the high number of false alarms for police or fire response. False alarms usually happen due to computer, installation, or human error.

Fines

There are no fines for the first two false alarms per calendar year. Fines apply to additional false alarms during the same calendar year: 

  • 3rd alarm is $50
  • 4th alarm is $100
  • 5th alarm is $150
  • 6th alarm is $200
  • 7th alarm and subsequent are $250 each

Step 1.Gather Information

Before you begin the online registration, you'll need to know:

  • Phone number for emergency contact(s)
  • Alarm company name, address, phone number, and date of activation
  • Location of utility shut-offs

Step 2.Create an online account

Create an account or login to complete your alarm registration. If you have a Merriam business license or pet license, use the same login information.

Our alarm coordinator will follow up with you and may schedule a site visit. 

Businesses
