With more than a decade of experience working for local government, Caitlin Gard is the City of Merriam’s new assistant city administrator.

Gard worked for the City of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, for two years before serving in various positions with the City of Shawnee for 10 years, most recently as the deputy city manager.

“I've found joy in every part of local government, from the events to the legislation to the infrastructure maintenance,” Gard said. “Merriam has a progressive stance on many initiatives that are important to me while maintaining the small-town community feel. It’s the best of both worlds.”

Merriam City Councilmembers approved Gard’s appointment in late June. Her first day at the City of Merriam is July 24.

“I’m humbled and appreciative for this opportunity and hope I can serve both Team Merriam and the community with excellence,” Gard said. “My main goal for this position is to be someone that all members of the Merriam community feel they can turn to.”

Gard said she has a deep respect for local government and is dedicated to the City, staff, and residents.

“I love seeing projects go from an idea in someone's head to a community-wide success,” Gard said. “I’m excited to join Team Merriam and continue good public service.”

Gard received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Missouri and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.
