Maintenance Worker

The City of Merriam Public Works Department is seeking a full-time Maintenance Worker. The qualified applicant will be responsible for performing a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work, and will operate a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City street and storm drainage facilities and systems.

 Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Inspect/repair streets and drainage systems and signs to ensure proper functioning
  • Maintain records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, water supply and consumption
  • Determine the location of gas, telephone, power, television, water and sewer lines prior to excavation
  • Respond to complaints regarding traffic signals, streets signs, drainage problems, sidewalks, curbs and gutter, and explain findings to supervisor
  • Drive trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of equipment, gravel, sand and salt in a variety of weather conditions 
  • Will perform other related duties as necessary and assigned


  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities preferred.
  • Must have valid State Driver’s license and Commercial Driver’s License Certification; or the ability to obtain a CDL within 8 weeks from hire date.
