This position is responsible to help support the City of Merriam’s mission by providing both unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance to streets, curbs & sidewalks, streetlights and city signage, and storm drains, and parks; these duties will be performed in a safe manner, while promoting the City of Merriam’s values.

Essential function and responsibilities:
- Inspect/repair streets and drainage systems and signs to ensure proper functioning
- Regularly inspects and/or repairs streets, drainage systems, and signs at frequent intervals
- Responds to complaints regarding traffic signals, street signs, drainage problems, sidewalks, curbs and gutters; explains findings to supervisor
- Inspects and ensures proper maintenance of equipment and tools; cleaning and basic maintenance
- Drives city-owned vehicles; will load, haul, unload equipment, gravel, sand and salt in a variety of weather conditions
- Performs labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew; including pavement cutting, ditch digging, hot asphalt placement, crack seal, flagging, hand digging, manhole and pipe repair, laying and backfilling
- Operates lawnmower, edger, string trimmer, snow blower, and trimmers
- Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance tools and equipment used in parks and street department, as well as ground maintenance
- Wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Promotes City values at all times
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities preferred
- Must have valid state driver’s license and commercial driver’s license certification; or the ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months from hire date
