You asked, and we listened! During the Comprehensive Plan 2040 process, community members said Merriam needs more bike lanes.
In response, the City conducted a bike and pedestrian study. The study results showed that Merriam could increase mobility by adding more bike lanes to connect to other Johnson County trails and communities. And, by making Merriam more mobile, it would:
- Increase the number of people who walk or bike.
- Increase road safety for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
- Make the Merriam community healthier.
The study is now a guide for when the City works on new street improvement projects. As construction crews replace new streets and sidewalks across Merriam, we plan to add new bike paths where recommended in the bike plan.
