Compost Bin Rebate

Compost bin in back yard

Start composting at home!

The City of Merriam looking to inspire residents to enjoy the benefits of composting. Composting enriches soil, helps to retain moisture and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers. When food scraps go to the landfill, they release methane as they slowly decompose. About 25% of garbage that goes to the landfill is food waste.

To further promote composting, the city will provide a rebate of up to $40 to residents that install a compost bin.

The city has partnered with a local Master Gardener to conduct workshop on how leaves, grass and shrubbery trimmings can be turned into a valuable resource for your garden. To help offset resident’s cost, the city will provide a $35 rebate for attending the workshop. Workshop dates and times can be found here.

Residents who attend a workshop and install a compost bin can receive a rebate of up to $75.
